hooray! i’m so excited guys bc ramona and i and this little blog were selected to be one of the contributors for sakura bloom‘s sling diaries. leigh, over at marvelous kiddo, is hosting (along with sakura bloom) a fashion show of sorts featuring blogging mama’s who wear their babies.
i’m still learning more info but basically each month until august, ramona and i get to play dress-up, wear those beautiful sakura bloom slings, and take photos to write a blog entry around our look choices for the theme they’ve assigned us each month. a curatorial team from sakura bloom will select their favorite photos from my posts (and the other participating bloggers) and pin it to their pinterest board. (see other projects they’ve done here and here).
funny thing is, i first learned about sakura bloom from marvelous kiddo while bean was still cooking away in my belly. i won a sling from one of her giveaways and that luck really encouraged me to explore babywearing and different ways of getting around w ramona. here’s a post of me trying out the sling for the first time w ramona (i’ve since learned how to wear it better).
we just got the themes emailed to us and i’m brainstorming ways to best and most honestly portray what they mean to me as a mama that loves to wear her baby. i know i’m not such a slouch with my style but i wouldn’t consider myself a fashionista; i’m certainly not on the cusp of all the trends. there’s a little bit of anxiety thinking of good-looking outfits while making sure i’m not trying too hard or end up conveying someone i’m not. all in all, this will be really really fun. and i can’t wait to find out what other bloggers are also part of this.

sometimes things get crazy in this small house with two little ones crawling around. when this happens, otto goes and finds a quiet spot under the coffee table (or the dining room table) and pretends to be invisible.
i’ve mentioned salvagetti bike shop before. it is, hands down, the best bike shop in denver.

jp has been going to scott’s (he’s the owner) shop for years and we’ve continued going there, not only because it’s the closest shop to our home, but also because it has the best staff and cyclist-community around. through our morning walks to happy (RIP) jp and i got to better know scott and were soon introduced to his lovely wife, jenny. her and i were preggers at the same time and, as i’ve mentioned before, had the same midwife. there was lots to talk about. we became fast friends.
so salvagetti has become a special place to me. happy is no longer there (it’s under construction at it’s new location on s. broadway) but all the great staff still are. i’ll pop in with a flat tire on my bob, or a bike questions, or just to say hello. they’re kind and fun and give ramona lots of love and good energy. i just really like it there and everything about it.
recently i read this article about the bike shop. it made me all teary and proud of my new city and the incredible people jp and i have gotten to know. and i wanted to pass it on, especially to those of you in denver who might need to find a good bike shop (or are going somewhere else. why would you?!) and also to those of you who are small business owners or entrepreneurs or trying to get something off the ground. to both groups i say: this is how it’s done.
p.s. salvagetti helps us with all of our cycling needs and then some: bob tires, baby helmets, burley bike trailers, extra parts, repairs. you name it, they’ve got it or will gladly order it for you.
dear little ramona: your papa introduced me to a love of bikes i didn’t know i had. this is even though your nona and pops had taken me on wonderful family bike rides since i was very little. that’s sorta neat, really, that a love i already had could be increased unwittingly by another love in my life.
like mother like daughter, i hope, in silliness and love of sunday afternoon bike rides.
