A Denver Home Companion | BABY'S FIRST HAIR CUT

speaking of hair, a couple of weeks ago, while ramona was going to town on a PB&J sandwich, i noticed her bangs were invading her eyes. they gathered at a point in the middle of her face and no amount of side-sweeping was going to keep them away. i had said i wasn’t going to cut her funny little hair until i knew what its intention was (she has long layers and short layers and thick spots and some spots that seem so thin — it’s growing path hadn’t made up its mind). but these bangs were just killing me! so i grabbed my trusty (rusty) pair of ikea scissors and decided to see if she would let me snip. the girl didn’t even bat an eye and a minute later she had cute, albeit thin and wispy, straight bangs. not only were the bangs out of her eyes but she also appeared a bit more like a little girl. mission accomplished.

when did your child get their first haircut or bang trim? did you do it yourself or take them into a stylist/barber? how did you feel about it?

Sylvia had/has the same hair growth. Me, I have a ton of hair, and so naturally I thought she would too. But alas, at 2 1/2 years old, it’s still pretty thin. I was the same as you; I didn’t want to cut her hair until there was a rhyme or reason. However, she constantly pushed it out of her face and said, “hair don’t get in my eyes.” So, I took her to a kids hair cut salon in Boulder. She sat in chair that looked like a fire truck. She got to “drive” the truck, and afterward she got her first ever lollipop. And, she had adorable bangs and a little bob cut. She was a little girl, not a baby anymore, which made me happy and sad all at the same time. Sigh…. where does the time go? When people say “they really grow up fast”, it’s true.

Oh, my! I vividly remember Theo and Sully’s first haircuts. So monumental because they do look older, and so so sweet! I bet she looks adorable!

Oh wow, cute, grown-up bangs. People have mentioned that we should cut Lulu’s hair, she’s getting a little bit of a mullet at the back, but like you, I just want to see how it will grow for now.

  4. Oh, I’m sure she looks so cute, just like her mama!

I have boys, so I would just snip the ends off the bangs of their very fine hair whenever they would get too long. I saved the first snippets from each, but it was kind of anticlimactic since their hair is so fine you could barely tell! Now my three-year-old prefers his hair long!
